Former president Donald Trump wants is proudly taking the credit, for ending Roe v Wade as he continues to talk on social media posts and interviews that he was the only one who could do it, with “nobody else even coming close.”
In his usual fashion, Mr.Trump took sole credit for ending the half-century law of Roe v. Wade in a statement on his social media platform by placing the Supreme Court justices who were instrumental in ending the law that protected abortion rights nationwide.
Pro-choice Arizona activists are well aware of the that fact and are committed to “never stopping the fight.”
The ACLU of Arizona states that their organization is “committed to working with impacted communities to protect comprehensive reproduction health.”
“But even before Roe v Wade was overturned, Arizona state lawmakers passed many unnecessary restrictions on abortion that make this form of healthcare less safe and disproportionately impact the same people who have always faced systemic barriers to care — communities of color, people living on low-incomes, undocumented immigrants, young people, the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities.”
Arizona pro-choice activists are intent on getting this message—from Trump’s own mouth—out to the voters in Arizona and across the nation who are largely pro-choice.
“Trump ushered in the ability to make many of archaic even criminalized abortion laws stick that were previously on state books but never enforced,” says Arizona abortion access activist Tammy Boyd.
“What we’re seeing now is a state by state battle on abortion access and protection and many GOP legislators are calling up barbaric “laws” to put in place because they saw an open door with Roe v Wade being overturned. We are in this fight to win the right for women to control their personal healthcare choices—and we will not give up. So Mr. Trump and all GOP candidates who try to eliminate our rights even further, will hear from us at the ballot box.”
Trump’s own words appear to agree with the Arizona pro-choice advocate when she states that Mr. Trump absolutely ushered in the fall of Roe v. Wade via his on the record statements.
“After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone,” Trump, the former president and possible 2024 Republican nomination, said on his social media platform.
Trump said his actions have “put the Pro Life movement in a strong negotiating position” against proponents of abortion rights, giving himself credit for the various bans that are being advanced by conservatives across the country. More than a dozen states have enacted abortion limits since Roe was overturned last summer.
But groups like the one Ms. Boyd is involved in are “aggressively” working to make certain that abortion access is not only available in Arizona, but wants to make Arizona one of the most progressive states on abortion access with a “front line” of legal advocacy for women who are denied access.
“We won’t be Texas,” Boyd said.
Serena Martinez, a colleague of Boyd told Northeast Valley News, “Women (and men) who support women’s access to safe and legal abortions and personal choice healthcare need to continue to push legislators at the state level and make certain that Donald Trump and other GOP abortion restrictionists are kept out of office.”
